Silver FM studio
At Kumasi-based radio station Silver FM, a fire broke out and destroyed a number of radio components worth millions of cedis.
The incident, which happened early on Saturday, destroyed all electrical equipment, including consoles, in the station’s two primary studios.
At five in the morning, the fire broke out during a live broadcast sermon. Pastors in the studio tried to put out the fire, but they were ineffective.
A radio station technician was hurt while attempting to flee the conflagration.
Some office areas and significant portions of the building were destroyed by the fire.
It is still unknown what started the fire. Eyewitnesses however claim a faulty air-conditioner triggered the fire.
Managers are meeting to decide how to proceed, so the station has been briefly shut down.
